Day 2. Flights, Landing and Bike Riding

China Southern was pretty good all considered. In total, four meals were served between Sydney and Amsterdam.

Image 1. Dinner on airplane was kinda good.

We got through Guangzhou, China successfully. Boarding the next flight we debated if we would be fed immediately or not on the next plane. It was a bit of a worry as I was so tired that my head was nodding forward and jerking back up again. I didn’t want to miss out on a free feed.

Luckily, they fed us quickly on the plane which was very much enjoyable. Like most of the other trips I have made, I very much love plane food. We then slept quite a bit. When I woke up again I saw that we only had 3 hours to go. Sleep deprivation before a long-haul flight is definitely the way to go. Slept almost straight through a 12 hour flight.

On arrival in Amsterdam, we found our way into the city, a very easy train trip. We had a quick walk around and found breakfast at a pancake cafe.

We took a stroll after breakfast and headed to The Generator Hostel. The Generator is our place of lodging while in town. Mitchell found this golden place which was a very good find. We had to walk perhaps 30-40 minutes to get here, but this was no problems of course.

As we landed at 6am, and had breakfast early, we were much too early for check-in. But what Mitchell was aware of was that The Generator rented out bicycles. So that’s what we did.

Image 5. Off for a bike ride.

Mitchell had a pre-planned trip out along the Amstel River that he wanted to do. We followed the Amstel 12km south to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. We turned around here and headed back.

We got to take some scenic photos of our journey along the river.

Mitchell was looking mighty slow on the way home. He said he was feeling so as well. He was definitely ready for check-in and lay down. Given that we had not laid down flat, probably close to 36 hours. From what Mitchell was saying, we had more to accomplish yet. This was possible given I searched what time sunset happens here, which is 10:06pm.

We arrived back at The Generator Hostel at about 1 pm. A short wait for our room to be ready, had a long needed shower, and a quick rest.

After this, we are off back into the main Amsterdam area to search for dinner and perhaps a few snacks and photos.
