Day 23. Travel day from Dolomites to Munich

We departed early from our Dolomites holiday home. We had the complimentary breakfast at the hotel before driving the little hybrid back to the Bolzano airport. Mitchell was getting very good at driving on the right side of the road.

I was sad to say goodbye to Mitchell at the train station. He headed straight in to wait for his train. I headed off to find some new sunglasses as I came to realise I left mine back in the hotel.

I took a photo of us saying goodbye to one another but sadly I screwed that up a bit. I took a blurry video instead of a wide angle photo…

Mitchell was off to Venice at 11:30. I was off to Munich, Germany on my way east to my end destination in Budapest. My train left at 12:30pm, but sadly was also delayed by 70 minutes.

I finally boarded my train to Munich which was chaos. The platform was under construction and people running to the other end of the platform to get the bicycle carriage and just their regular carriage. I only had to walk four carriages to get into carriage 266.

On the train there was a lot of people. Occupying seats that were paid and reserved. I once again had to ask someone to relocate. Four elderly ladies across the isle had to also ask but the occupiers refused to move creating a deadlock of foot traffic in the train for about 5 minutes. All was resolved in the end.

There was so much baggage that there was no room in the overhead locker. Suitcases in the isle created all sorts of trouble for people bring through their own suitcases. Most people tried and failed to force their suitcases through which just added to the atmosphere.

To further the complexity, due to this train running late I think it lost its availability to terminate at Munich Hbf (central station). It therefore terminated at a station on the outskirts of the city. It was an easy jump on another train to reach central station. I didn’t take too many photos of all this.

I went around to my hotel, being an Ibis, and checked in. I passed the communal area which was very welcoming. With a stylish chess board table area I liked.

My room was a cubicle. As was expected. We haven’t seen many tea and coffee facilities on this trip. Makes a morning coffee complicated. I even bought coffee sachets I haven’t been able to use just yet.

After a shower, the next stop was dinner. And I was looking forward to it. I visited a Siggis restaurant which i found just across the road. My favourite meal has to be a hamburger.

While I awaited my meal I chatted with Mitchell and we made grand plans for when we got home to Australia. We had found some fun ideas while travelling. I checked Mitchell’s position. He was right where he should be.

Before retiring for the night, I could see a monument close by to my location so I took a walk around the block to check it out.

As I approached, I saw a monument and gates called the Propylaea, a building that I researched has been there since 1862. There appeared to small festival going on at this time. There was food, gymnastics and an outdoors film festival where people were getting ready for a series of films. I took the below photo while standing in the plaza called the Königsplatz.

Following my short exploration, I decided to return to the hotel. It was past 8:30pm. I had planned tomorrow to do a self-guided tour that should take me 20km or more through the old town Munich.
