Yesterday, while touring the royal gardens in Sintra Quinta da Regaleira, I learnt from Mitchell about eSims and how they can be used while travelling.
Until recently I did not have a device that could do an eSim. A normal sim card is a physical chip you insert, but you can have an electronic sim card purchased through a website or app.
Apparently, iPhone 14 Pro can have 8 eSims with 2 sim cards active at one time. This means I can have my phone calls and SMSs arrive through my normal Australian number without being charged a day rate (I think), but have all the internet assigned to my European eSim.
We both purchased HolaFly’s unlimited data eSim for 32 countries. It has 5G, is very fast, and will last 30 days for $92AUD.
I will be telling my mother about this for her trip later this year.
