Day 24. Arriving in London and Visiting The Tower of London

First thing today we boarded a train to London. It was only a 50 minute journey from Oxford. We It was another cloudy day but no rain in either Oxford or London.

We debated if we should do stone henge today or another day, we decided another day given the distance and train routes to get there from London. I booked tickets to The Tower of London which was one of my favourites when I visited with Mum.

On the walk to the Tower we passed Elizabeth Tower which holds the bell called Big Ben, and the London Eye.

St Paul’s Cathedral, where Admiral Lord Nelson‘s funeral was held who Mitchell likes for his naval battle against the French and Spanish in the Battle of Trafalgar.

We took a walking break where I admired my complete flag collection of our trip.

On arrival at the Tower of London, I took another tour with the Beefeaters or Yeoman in the tower. I love the history of the tower, the terrible things that occurred here. behind the Yeoman here you can see a glass disk were various famous people were executed in history including Anne Boleyn. I visited the chapel where she is burred with other people from that period including Thomas More and John Fisher who are also buried in the chapel here. All appear in the show The Tudors.

We saw the White Tower, Crown Jewels (although the main crown and a few other coronation items were not present due to the coronation of the King for 6 May 2023). Most were there.

The White Tower.

I didn’t get a good shot of him, but this Raven is called Jubilee. He has lived in the Tower for many years. The Ravens of the Tower of London are important due to the legend. They wander freely the premises of the Tower as allowed.

I took a panorama after our visit.

I also took a photo of our street leading up to our accommodation. It was a cool area in Greater London suburb.

And checked into our accommodation.
