Our first goal for the day (after I brought his majesty his morning coffee) was to see the changing of the guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
We caught the underground into St James’s Park however learnt that due to the coronation occurring on 6 May the changing of the guard is only happening Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, we would come back tomorrow. There was a lot of preparation for this taking place. Including seating areas and a portion of Hyde Park was sectioned off to put supplies such as portable toilets, mobile transmitters and such.
We noticed that the Royal Standard was being flown above Buckingham which indicates the King is at home.
We decided we would catch a train to Windsor early and look around. Our entrance to Windsor Castle was for 1:30pm. The allowed us in early however.
Photos below are of our walk around Windsor and the castle itself. Photos were not allowed in the State Rooms we visited or inside St George’s Chapel.
The interior of Windsor Castle was mighty impressive. Mitchell liked the gifts the sovereign received over the last millennia from various countries including China and India etc.
I loved the painting collection. I saw a painting of Henry VIII, I tried to research this but I could not find it in a quick search. I suspect it is a copy as the original was destroyed in a fire.
In St. George’s Chapel again we were not able to take photos. We saw Elizabeth II and Philip’s resting place together with parents George VI and Elizabeth.
We also saw Henry VIII and Jane Seymour’s stone where they are buried below.
After this we hopped on the new Elizabeth train line heading the wrong way, swapped train and headed the right way.
We wrote this early as tonight we will have dinner with my cousin. We plan to find Mitchell some bluetooth earphones too so he can lose them again.
Lol…. Oh yes his lordship has to hv his morning coffee just like his father…😆
Seeing Windsor would be a great experience.
Going through the ear pods Mitchel ..
I discovered I can wash mine..
then lose them for a month and they still work…
Doubt I’ll be that lucky again.
Love the pictures.
Fabulous
So lovely to see the photos of London. I did a couple of trips to England with Gran/Mum when I was younger and so loved it. I’m hoping to go back to visit and do one of their big walks in a year or 2. Make sure you massage your feet of an evening and a foot bath with Epsom Salts will help with the pain/discomfort. Hiker’s Wool or Moleskin is good to put on sore spots too. xx
