Today: 18.81km.
We have been moving quickly in our trip. We both however feel like we have seen some key highlights from each place we have visited.
Our trip to Berlin yesterday was 7 hours on a train. We arrived at 10pm and it was too late to write a blog, today we will get back to normal.
This morning we needed to do some booking of our next stage of the trip. As of writing this we have booked Prague and flights to Glasgow and accommodation there as well. The 3 day walk we wish to do from Coventry to Oxford we are able to get to the start of this walk via train route from Glasgow. We will need to book this next on our rail pass.
Today we set out on our normal walking route. it was cloudy and the afternoon there was sprinkling rain which wasn’t enough to make us wet but was consistent.
Beginning our day walking along the main river of Berlin and then into a park on our way to checkout the Berlin Wall.
The below was a sample of the Berlin Wall in the centre of town. We read the notice boards here of its construction and removal in 1989. I work with someone who was here in Berlin when people were taking it down at this time.
Memorial site to the Berlin Wall.
Followed a man walking his Shiba Inu. The second Ðogecoin dog I have seen since starting the trip.
We went to the Spy Museum in Berlin. Pretty cool place. Although short in length.
Activists for Ukraine.
Tried the McPlant burger at McDonalds. Was delightful with the veggie nuggets to go with them.
We then decided to climb the Berlin Cathedral in the image below.
I noticed there was burials here of kings and emperor’s of Germany. Friedrich III was German Emperor and King of Prussia for 99 days between March and June 1888.
Taking some photos at the top of the tower. Mitchell takes a photo through the telescope.
We then take a 1 hour walk to visit a trading card shop. A number of avid fans were trading cards and checking each others collection. You can browse second hand cards for your collection and buy new packs of various series.
On the way back we choose a different road to walk down. We discover a few different places.
I wish to enter a shopping centre as Mitchell wanted to buy and make some food for the coming days. He changes his mind and while it rains I order a coffee and cake at the shopping centre. It was a shop that felt like a mini Aldi with a coffee shop. I loved it.
We do a price check of alcohol. Seems cheaper than usual here.
On arrival back home at our hostel, we do some washing and hang it out to dry, hoping it’ll dry by tomorrow morning when we check out. This place was $66 each per night which was within out planned budget of $100 a night each. We have done this well within budget in terms of accommodation, we have probably spent more on attractions though than planned.
We head down to the common area after washing clothes, we plan on drinking Pepsi Max (for me) and a Berliner for Mitchell until our Uber Eats arrives.
I write this blog sitting at one of these tables in the common area of the hostel. There is a bar and friendly staff to help. We order our dinner and get a kebab.
Love the old spy stuff and all the old buildings
