Day 28. Last Day in Europe, fly home tomorrow

Today I had a few different plans to prepare for my return home such as buying a jumper and maybe some noise cancelling AirPods. It turns out I didn’t achieve too many of them.

Another thing I wanted to do, I wanted some currency of Hungary. While Hungary is in the European Union it turns out they still maintain their own currency. Withdrew about $40 AUD and used this on a few purchases to get some coins.

I was not prepared for this new currency yesterday and was trying to buy my lunch but realising that it would cost 2,000 HUF. I had to do some quick conversion to make sure that HUF was closer to micro-cents than dollars.

I started my day off with a croissant and coffee. I took a photo of some more old train carriages and I could breaky at the train station.

I started my day off today by visiting an island called Margaret Island. It looks like this island had a park on it which interested me.

It turns out that this park was much larger than I had anticipated. At first I wanted to circumnavigate the island but after walking for half an hour and only getting halfway I realised I should probably head back or I might be using half my day on this island.

I walked past a number of exhibits. I passed a water fountain which was reacting to nearby music.

I passed a garden of wildflowers. In a large and open display.

I also passed the zoo, or at least an enclosure for some deer. I took a photo of a deer who was not the least bit worried about me and was just interested in doing some scratching.

I decided to visit a shopping centre and have lunch. I was finding it difficult to find food I was interested in in Budapest. Mainly because there was few takeaway restaurants. I didn’t really want to sit down and eat and wait for a meal to be prepared just for myself.

In the shopping mall, I searched for a jumper but did not find anything I was too interested in.  I also searched for some noise cancelling AirPods for the aeroplane. Active noise cancellation is very good for cancelling out the sound of hums and engine sounds. These turned out to be $100 more than if I were to buy them in Australia so I decided not to get them.

After this, I posted my last postcard and returned to the river to walk around the Parliamentary building which I had photographed yesterday. I saw a mini-McDonald’s.

I took a few photos of the monuments that are around it. There was clear science not to get very close and there were guards patrolling the perimeter.

On my way home back to the hotel, I returned over Castle Hill. As I passed Castle Hill, I saw some signs advertising that underneath Castle Hill was a bunker which used to be a hospital and they also added a nuclear fallout shelter to this bunker during the Cold War. It very much interested me so I took a tour. No photographs were allowed during this tour.

After walking 16.5 km I returned to the hotel for a short nap.

Later that afternoon I return to go outside and visited Castle Hill one last time where I watch the sunset.

I also walked over the other side of Castle Hill and awaited for the lights to turn on at the Parliament house and took a photo.

For dinner, I ordered the equivalent of Uber eats and met my delivery driver outside the hotel. At this point it was 9:30 pm. I photographed one of the cool trams in Budapest on the way.

I have enjoyed my time overseas, especially with my friend Mitchell. I I’m glad I got to see Germany, Austria and Hungary but I do wish I was with him as he continues down south through Italy. Hopefully Mitchell will continue to write a few blog posts here and there.

However, my dogs call and I feel like I have been overseas long enough.

Tomorrow, I will make one last post before I board the plane.
