Day 6. Walking 19km through forest crevasses

It turned out that the beds in this tent were very squeaky. Like really squeaky. If either Mitchell or I moved in the night we would wake the other one up. Almost startling the other sleeper awake. Is possible we even woke our neighbours, or at least that’s the way it sounded it us.

Checkout was at 8am which was a bit disappointing to Mitchell who would have liked to leave a little earlier, especially given that sun rises at 5:30am and it was forecast to be 33°.

After finally getting packed and ready, we found the entrance to the Mullerthal Trail and headed down into the gully. I have called it a crevice as it would appear that the farming plateaus that surround these creek beds are built around deep crevasses in the surrounding terrain.

We did a total of 19.5km today. Mitchell’s watch tells him we did 20.5km as he started it from our tent. Below is a map of the trail that we followed through the twisting areas of the river and forest land.

Our travels took us past a water tower, and many hay bales as we skipped from gully to gully.

This type of agricultural landscape is something that I enjoy walking through.

Image 4. Scenery I like.

The forest itself was very nice. Many scenic spots. I enjoyed the style of the trail. The symbols on the trees which represent the different types of trails. The signs that were scattered at various entry points.

Below will be a gallery of images relating to our experience.

Common scene was that trees couldn’t grow out of rocks which so often amuse me given my success with a veggie patch.

Furthermore, we reached our destination that Mitchell wanted to visit which was a very old keystone style bridge. We continued walking and we had lunch by the river. I ate one of my apples that I purchased yesterday and the remaining popcorn that I did not finish eating.

There was one moment where I looked at Mitchell and I said that I would like to apologise. I had proposed to Mitchell we follow the below forestry trail has both our maps indicated that it leads to our destination.

As we walked into town from a side trail, I took a photo of a group of very pleasant cows. They were laying down in the shade next to their small trough. One let me pat it on the head.

We carried forward and headed mostly straight to the town we were staying at called Scheidgen. We stopped for lunch at the neighbouring town called Consdorf and we ordered second lunch. I ordered mozzarella sticks and a bowl of sweet potato fries at an Italian restaurant. While ordering overseas I make a point of pointing to the menu of the item that I would like to order. These additional steps are not always successful though. Our waiter took no notes but did come back to check that I wanted mozzarella to which I confirmed. He told me it came with tomato which I said this was fine. I am not convinced that my below meal is mozzarella sticks, but asking further questions at the confirmation stage was too difficult at this point. This was later to confirmed as the person sitting next to us received the order that I was hoping for. They also got my drink wrong. But oh well.

We carried on after lunch. For food that I would be charged for a bottle of water instead of refilling my bottles, I filled up my water bottles in the WC.

We ventured forth to our accommodation. A very fancy place which we needed to wear shoe socks to enter. Surprisingly, Mitchell tells me that this was cheaper than our tent yesterday.

Tomorrow, we shall refill our drink bottles from the bathroom once again. There are no shopping centres in this very small town. I therefore keep my last apple for the trail tomorrow as we walk towards Germany.

We will take a fairly direct route. Google Maps says it will take 3.5 hours. it is forecast to be even hotter tomorrow at 35°. We have been receiving heat wave alerts through SMS from Luxembourg government.

Until tomorrow.
