The day started hot and sweaty. The night before, we got multiple texts from the Luxembourg government warning of severe weather with a high of 35°C.
But I didn’t come all this way to skip the hikes I’d been looking forward to! Tom, on the other hand, wanted to take a more direct route along the roads in the sun. My route was twice as long but followed the river and stayed in the shade. So we wished each other good luck and went our own ways.

Right away, I was greeted by a happy family also out for their morning walk. We said hi, and I got to pat their fluffy dog. The vibe was perfect—the cold breeze and the fresh smell of pine trees were just how I imagined it.

I headed to Echternach to buy a hat and have some breakfast, then set off toward Germany. On the way, I stopped at Frombuerg for a nap in a shady clearing, surrounded by the sounds of unfamiliar birds.

Next, I continued toward Herborn, where the temperature reached 35°C. The route I had planned went through a pine forest, but it had just been cleared, so there was no shade. After walking 20 kilometers, my phone overheated and shut down, and the once-beautiful forest looked devastated. I decided to catch a train to my accommodation up in the hills.

Now I’m sitting down with Tom, swapping stories about our days—which nearly ended with him getting heatstroke!
