Day 8. Travel back to Luxembourg, stroll around the city

After a night of rest and recuperation, and teaching Mitchell how to open a European window, we both set forth on foot back towards the ferry station and river that separates Luxembourg and Germany. It was a 3 km walk from the hotel back to the ferry.

The ferry is €1 per person. It is a very short trip across the river. We visited the pharmacy that was closed yesterday but back open today. We could understand why they closed due to the heat as it was very hot inside despite outside being below 21°. I purchased some backup Panadol just in case we need it for the future.

We then headed for the train station. All public transport is free in Luxembourg which Mitchell educated me about. This is good news as it means that you can stay out of the city where it is cheaper and catch public transport into town for no cost. This is precisely what Mitchell booked which was a very clever idea.

We had some time before it was check-in time though. So we took our bags with us while we walked around the city and had a look at the sights. We ventured down into a park which was under construction. It would appear that a lot of things in Luxembourg are under construction at the present time as we had some difficulty getting through side streets and through local parks.

We saw some features such as a vegetable garden, and a totem display, we also took photos of the bridge that connects the two sides of Luxembourg through the valley that sits between the two halves of the city. These valleys or crevasses would appear to be fairly common throughout Luxembourg as we had just taken a walk-through a valley that I imagine would be similar to this at one time in the past.

Mitchell took me for a treat today. Mitchell knows that I am a fast food connoisseur. He let me have takeaway for lunch. We went to visit a Five Guys restaurant. Five Guys is like a McDonald’s or Hungry Jack’s, but they are renowned for their fries.

They like to add extra fries into the bag on top of your meal so that you always have spares. You should therefore only ever ask for a small chips. At the front of the store where bags of potatoes and boxes of peanut oil which they sell wholesale so you can make your own chips from home. I have not seen this sale when I previously came to a Five Guys.

After this, we decided to take a walk down to what I imagined to be the river. It turned out to be very sickly covered in vegetation. Hard to tell sometimes from Google Maps what you are walking into. I thought they looked to be a pool down in a park, but it was actually just land with a few densely covered tracks. Below is the pass that we took.

We sat on a step and brought out some postcards. These were put in the mail that same afternoon once we had figured out how to find a Luxembourg post Box.

After this, we went to the hotel to check in. I did some sewing and added some flags to my backpack of the countries that we had thus far visited. Mitchell did some washing in the sink. There was no washing machine machine at the Ibis Hotel at the Airport. We were staying at the airport as I previously explained it was cheaper and the public transport to get to the airport was only 15 minutes and completely free.

In the afternoon, we ventured into town without our backpacks and had dinner and a walk-through the streets.

Mitchell very much enjoyed his muscles that he ordered. Below is a picture of his enjoyment.

I ordered a trilogy of hamburgers. I think in Australia we called these sliders. It was a very good atmosphere.

Following this, we returned to the hotel and I did some more sewing of my backpack. A picture of it will come later.
