Today, I woke up having no ideal what might be in stall for us today. I didn’t even think to ask yesterday when we were out to dinner. We spoke about many things but tomorrow’s plans were not among them.
Mitchell offered me a few choices in the morning. It sounded like he had an interest to do a day trip to see mediaeval castles. This sounded like a great idea. We needed to take the free Luxembourg public transport network to get there so we checked the bus timetable and got on the next available bus. We had 35 minutes so I did some quick laundry in the bathroom and hung my clothes out to dry.
For today, I will use my wikipedia link plugin for this blog to provide some history on the castles we visited. You will see the castle names underlined and clicking on the link will show a popup on some more information.
We first travelled to a castle named Vianden Castle. The castles we visited today were surprisingly quiet with few tourists.
The castle had many rooms, corridors and quarters in very good condition. It would have been renovated many times over the years.
Below are a selection of images from that visit.

I also found Mitchell a suitcase for his return flight home to Australia:

Our next trip was to Bourscheid Castle which was in much more of a state of ruins. The walls were only half height and some holes in towers.
Below is a selection of images from that visit.

On our way home, I had some hesitation on how we should walk to get back to the bus stop. We ultimately decided to take a risk and try a walking track which followed the rivers of the area to a neighbouring town called Michelau.

We took that risk and walked an hour to arrive just in time for the next train that leaves every hour on that small rail track.

Once again, free transport in Luxembourg.

On arrival back in the capitol city, we decided we would have a quiet night. We still needed to explore the scenic side of the city that we had traveled past on the train. But that would have to be another night.
We visited a mini-mart to buy dinner. We aimed for healthy and low-cost tonight, something to take back to the Ibis Hotel. I was most impressed with my dinner. It was delicious.

I fell asleep before getting much done. We agreed travelling is a 24/7 task.
